Aussie singer John Farnham’s sons have given a candid interview as their brave dad continues in his ongoing health battle.

John Farnham’s sons have spoken candidly about their iconic father’s ongoing health battle.

Speaking with the Australian Women’s Weekly, Robert and James Farnham praised the singer’s resilience amid his private and ongoing battle with cancer.

“You have to keep positive and not get bogged down,” Robert said in the May issue of the magazine. “It’s cruel and brutal but they’re the cards you’re dealt in life and cancer doesn’t care who you are.”

Farnham, 73, was diagnosed with mouth cancer in October 2022 and underwent a harrowing 13-hour operation last August to remove a cancerous tumour from his mouth.

Ever since, You’re The Voice singer has been receiving ongoing treatment, care and rehabilitation, but his recovery hit an obstacle last month when he was hospitalised again with a lung infection.

The singer’s sons say they are “proud” of their famous dad for taking all his ailments in his stride, praising him for attempting to make another comeback with his upcoming film, John Farnham: Finding the Voice, which opens in cinemas on May 18.

The documentary was almost left incomplete following the death of Farnham’s long-time manager and best friend, Glenn Wheatley, who passed away in February 2022, just weeks before Farnham’s cancer diagnosis.

But given the legendary singer recovered well from his surgery, he and his family were hellbent on finishing the film, which tells the untold story of his rise to stardom and the struggles he faced along the way with depression and poverty – a story his sons call “inspiring’.

“What he did was remarkable. But he has always seen the positive. He’s never let things get to him and he has always pushed through,” James said.

While Farnham is gearing up for his moment on the big screen, his sons have ruled out a return to live performances for now.

“He’s got nothing left to prove,” James added. “He’s done it all, he’s climbed the mountain and his flag is still on top.”
