AUTHOR EL James is about to publish a new ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ — this time, with the story told from Christian’s point of view.
The new novel, titled Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey as Told by Christian, will be released on June 18 — the fictional character’s birthday, the Mirror reports.
“Christian is a complex character and readers have always been fascinated by his desires and motivations, and his troubled past,” James explained in a statement to media. “Also, as anyone who has ever been in a relationship knows, there are two sides to every story.”
She posted a cover of the new book to her Instagram feed, informing fans of the publication date. The book bears a dedication to her readers, whose voracity partly fuelled her motivation.
On the opening page, she says it is “dedicated to those readers who asked ... and asked ... and asked ... and asked for this”.
The author’s Fifty Shades trilogy — Fifty Shades Of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed — has sold more than 125 million copies around the world, and was adapted to a film starring Jamie Dornan (as Christian Grey) and Dakota Johnson (as his lover Anastasia Steele).
While the first volume was originally self-published in 2011 as an e-book and print-on-demand, publishing rights were acquired the following year. Sales have made James a multi-millionaire.
The plot concerns a young business magnate (Grey), who enters into a relationship with the younger Steele, involving sexual practices including bondage/discipline, dominance/submission, and sadism/masochism (BDSM).
“It’s been a great pleasure to return to my happy place — writing, being with Christian and Ana in their universe ...” James said.
