Jessica Mauboy: My Love Song to my Hometown Darwin

OUR Jess is returning to the Territory as one of the major stars in the 2022 BASSINTHEGRASS line up.

But not everyone will be welcome at the Territory’s most popular music festival as the NT Government moves to ban anyone not double-vaccinated against Covid-19.

Major Events and Health Minister Natasha Fyles said “delivering a safe and enjoyable event for everyone (was) a top priority”.

“There aren’t many places where you can see award-winning acts perform at a beachside music festival, and we pride ourselves on backing this unique event that continues to punch above its weight,” she said.

One of 16 performers, Mauboy will be joined by popular bands Hilltop Hoods and Peking Duk. “I can’t wait to get back home to Darwin and see you all and perform live with my band at Mindil Beach,” Mauboy said. “I have missed performing live and I’m looking forward to singing some of your favourites and new music too with you all soon.”

Heading into its 19th year, the music festival draws crowds of about 14,000 music fans who enjoy 12 hours of music at Mindil Beach.

Australian singer-songwriter Vera Blue said she was excited to be in Darwin again. “I’m busting to get out on stage and play some new music,” she said.

Meanwhile DJ Hot Dub Time Machine said BASS was a rare festival that had a “lovely atmosphere”.

“It’s all the same down south, so it’s great to come play in a totally different place,” he said.

Tickets start at $110 and are on sale at bassinthegrass.com.au
