AACTA 2024 film and TV nominations revealed

AACTA has announced the nominations for its 2024 awards ceremony – and one drama series leads the way with a staggering 15 nominations.

The Australian Academy of Cinema Television Arts (AACTA) has unveiled the nominees for the 2024 awards ceremony.

Leading the way in the awards show presented by the Foxtel Group is the ABC drama series The Newsreader, which received a staggering 15 nominations, including Best Drama Series and lead acting nods for its stars Anna Torv and Sam Reid.

Locally produced drama The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, starring Sigourney Weaver, followed closely behind with 12 nominations, including Best Miniseries.

BINGE comedy Colin From Accounts, that won big at the TV Logies earlier this year, received a whopping 10 nominations, including Best Narrative Comedy Series, and the crime drama Deadloch also secured 10 nominations.

The newly introduced award for Best Acting in a Comedy saw the top-tier stars nominated for their stellar performances, with Colin From Accounts stars Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer leading the way alongside the likes of Kitty Flanagan, Julia Zemiro and Celeste Barber.

Over on the big screen, six films are in the running for the coveted AACTA for Best Film, with Of An Age, Shayda, Sweet As, Talk to Me, The Royal Hotel and The New Boy.

Warwick Thornton’s The New Boy, featuring Cate Blanchett, secured 12 nominations, while Talk To Me – the feature film directorial debut of Danny and Michael Philippou – scored an impressive 11 gongs.

For the first time in its history, the AACTAs will take place in the afternoon on Thursday, February 8 at the Home of the Arts (HOTA) on the Gold Coast over a four-day festival offering a panel Q & As, meet-and-greets and screenings.
