Former child star, Aaron Carter, 34, has been found dead in his Los Angeles home, with police dispatched to the property following a call suggesting a male had drowned in the bathtub.
Following standard procedure, TMZ reports homicide detectives have been sent to Carter’s home, however there is currently no suggestion foul play was involved in his death.
Speaking to the New York Post, a LA police spokesman said deputies arrived at the residence at 10.58am and found a deceased person.
A representative for Carter also confirmed the news of the singer’s passing to Page Six.
“It is with great regret to confirm Aaron Carter was found unresponsive this a.m. in his home in Palmdale, CA,” they wrote.
“The family has been notified and will be flying out to Los Angeles. Aaron worked very hard towards the end of his life in recovery, to be a good father and to make amends with his family.”
How did Aaron Carter die?
An official cause of death has not yet been revealed and it’s likely this information will not be disclosed until an autopsy and coroner’s report has been completed. This could take as long as six months.
Carter came to fame in 1997, after opening for the Backstreet Boys, which also featured his older brother Nick.
He released his first self-titled album in 1997 when he was just nine years old.
The Florida native went on to release hit singles like “I Want Candy”, “Aaron’s Party (Come Get It)”, “That’s How I Beat Shaq” and “Bounce”.
Custody battle, rehab: Carter’s turbulent final year
The singer, rapper and actor is survived by his baby son Prince, which he shares with ex-fiancée Melanie Martin. The former couple welcomed the child in November 2021.
In September 2022, The US Sun reported that Carter had lost custody of his son, which prompted him to begin a month-long outpatient program at the LA-based Lionrock Recovery rehabilitation clinic.
Carter told the publication that the treatment was to help him stop smoking marijuana and to stabilise his turbulent relationship with Ms Martin.
