A will.i.am song better international hit bet for Anja Nissen than a Delta Goodrem song

MUSIC industry commentators say a will.i.am song is a better international bet for The Voice winner Anja Nissen than one written by Delta Goodrem.

MYSTERY continues to surround The Voice winner Anja Nissen having her Delta Goodrem-penned winner’s single ditched and switched at the last minute.

My Girls had been recorded and was due for release today, but was axed from Anja Nissen’s album and her version will now not be released in any forum.

TEN THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW: Who is Anja Nissen?

Nissen is expected to release a song rush-recorded with Voice coach will.i.am next week instead.

The new song will not be included on Nissen’s self-titled covers album, released next Friday.

The reality TV winner tweeted a photo of herself in the studio with the Black Eyed Peas hit maker saying she was looking forward to the single.

Goodrem fans have expressed disappointment over the 11th hour withdrawal of My Girls, with speculation growing over the rapid about face amid music industry commentators.

“If they want to launch Anja Nissen internationally you would give priority to a song by will.i.am over one by Delta Goodrem,” Paul Cashmere of music website Noise 11 said.

``The fact is will.i.am has certainly had more success getting songs on the radio in the last few years. But while no one has heard either song yet you’ve got to question when a Delta Goodrem or a will.i.am write a song and don’t use it themselves.

“It is not uncommon that a song wouldn’t get used, but it is uncommon that they got so far to record it and announce the release date then axe it the day before it was due to come out and they’d advertised it was being launched on the Today show. The way this has been handled suggests there’s trouble in paradise with The Voice this year.”

Goodrem’s management politely declined to comment on the situation, although the song’s fate is out of their hands and at the whim of whoever decides to record it.

My Girls, which Goodrem had written for her new album, will now re-enter the song publishing market and may find a home with another artist.

Sources say My Girls was an upbeat electronic anthem, similar in feel to Alicia Keys’ Girl on Fire.

“Often in the pop world these songs sit on shelves until the right person comes along,” Cashmere said.

Cashmere said the fact Nissen wasn’t allowed to perform an original song on the Voice Grand Final this year, unlike previous years, was telling.

”The fact they didn’t have an original song ready to perform on a show watched by several million people indicates maybe this is being played by ear,” Cashmere said.

“It seems a bit uncertain. But the ratings were down this year and the individual song sales were the lowest of any previous year. Karise Eden had five ARIA Top 10 songs in the first year, Harrison Craig had three Top 10s this year. There were none this year.

“And the fact they didn’t showcase an original song on the Grand Final means a songwriter missed out on valuable exposure. And it means this year more than ever The Voice was a karaoke show.”

Nissen’s manager Michael Parisi said her next move will be revealed on Tuesday.

“There’s something big coming next week,” her manager Michael Parisi said.

“People will be blown away. The next stage of her career will be exciting, this is going to throw everything on its head.”
