GUY Sebastian has been confirmed as Australia’s wildcard contestant in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna in May.
The chart-topping pop star said he would be performing an epic ballad at the world’s biggest music competition.
Sebastian said he was “pumped” to be chosen by SBS to represent Australia to compete for the very first time in the 60 years of Eurovision.
Within moments of the announcement, Sebastian began to trend worldwide on Twitter - although the reaction on social media hasn’t been overly positive.
An overwhelming number of fans expressed their disappointment, cracking jokes about the artist and pointing out his lacklustre performance at the World Idol competition in 2003, which brought together winners from versions of the reality singing contest from around the globe.

Guy Sebastian says the track will be off his latest album but not one of the singles. So itâll be great then?

Asked about those who would protest his selection, Sebastian said: “To quote Taylor Swift, haters gonna hate, hate, hate. There are way too many positives.”
And there were many on Twitter who welcomed his selection.
Jessica Mauboy’s stellar performance of Sea Of flags at last year’s Eurovision finale paved the way for us to finally muscle our way into the iconic Europe-only event.
It is expected Guy’s song will be drawn from his latest album Madness which was released in November last year. Rules dictate the song cannot have been released before September 2014.
“I am pumped. it’s Eurovision, it’s huge,” he said.
“It’s not every day you get to perform in front of 200 million people.”
SBS confirmed Sebastian’s label Sony would back his campaign but it was a “very inexpensive project for its production values - it’s a teaspoon of money,” said director Paul Clarke.
SBS will broadcast the semi finals and grand finals live from about 5am to allow Australia to vote for the other competing nations. We cannot vote for ourselves.
