RURAL and remote schools have both the most and least crowded schools in the Territory, according to national data.

An analysis of national data from the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) has revealed the schools where teachers have the most and least students to teach.

The figures show in 2018 in the rural and remote NT region there were more students per teacher at Amanbidji School than any other school.

According to the data, the most up to data that includes all state and private schools nationally, Amanbidji School had 28.3 students for every teacher, the highest in the area.

The second highest student-teacher ratios were at Mapuru Yirralka College where there was an average of 25.9 students for every teacher at the school.

At Alekarenge School there were 21.3 students for every teacher, the rural and remote NT region’s third highest.

In contrast there one teacher for every 4 students at Bulla Camp School, the region’s lowest ratio of students per teacher.

The second lowest ratio was at Milyakburra School where there were 4.4 students per teacher.

The figures show at Woolaning School there were 4.6 students per teacher, the third lowest ratio in the rural and remote NT region.

According to ACARA the national student-teacher ratio was 13.5 students for every teacher.

Across the country independent private schools had the lowest student to teacher ratios with 11.7 students to every teacher.

Government schools had an average of 13.8 students for every teacher while Catholic schools had an average of 14 students for every teacher.

Student-teacher ratios do not take into account teacher aides or non-teaching staff at schools, only the full-time equivalent teachers.

Mutitjulu School: 20.5 students per teacher

Gapuwiyak School: 19.3 students per teacher

Alcoota School: 19.0 students per teacher

Barunga School: 18.5 students per teacher

Mount Allan School: 18.0 students per teacher

Alpurrurulam School: 17.8 students per teacher

Gawa Christian School: 17.3 students per teacher

Rural and remote NT’s least crowded classrooms

Bulla Camp School: 4.0 students per teacher

Milyakburra School: 4.4 students per teacher

Woolaning School: 4.6 students per teacher

Douglas Daly School: 4.8 students per teacher

Tipperary Station School: 5.0 students per teacher

Peppimenarti School: 5.7 students per teacher

Belyuen School: 6.0 students per teacher

Xavier Catholic College: 6.4 students per teacher

Woolianna School: 6.5 students per teacher

Mataranka School: 6.8 students per teacher

The following school is at the top of the least crowded classrooms lists, however it is a special needs institution:

Kintore Street School: 3.9 students per teacher
