A Territory student has crushed the competition at an academic challenge in Queensland.

Haileybury Rendall School year 10 student Peter Susanto, 12, placed first out of 119 students at the Australian Brain Bee Challenge regional finals.

Competitors were quizzed on their knowledge about neuroscience in written and oral tests.

Peter was the only student from the NT at the regional finals.

“I felt really proud to be able to represent both my school and the NT,” he said. “And also to exceed people's expectations.”

Peter will compete in the national finals in December in Adelaide.

He hopes to become the first person in the Territory to represent Australia at the international finals.

“I want to show people that the NT does have the capacity and has people who are intellectuals and academics,” he said. “And prove to them the NT can do something great.”
