A MOTHER has expressed her shock after learning the leader of her child’s school mistakenly left quarantine early after travelling to Victoria and New South Wales.

On Wednesday, parents and guardians of Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School students were informed acting principal Denis Graham was put back into self-quarantine, after making an error on his paperwork upon returning to the Territory from central Victoria, northern New South Wales and Queensland.

The concerned mother, who did not want to be named, said the mistake was unacceptable, and that she was disappointed such an error could be made by “someone of such a high rank within the community, and someone who has such a huge responsibility towards the community and children and staff”.

“He’s someone that has entered that school and could literally have infected every child in Zuccoli and Johnston,” she said.

“Where’s his accountability?”

A Catholic Education NT spokeswoman said Mr Graham returned a negative result for COVID-19 and remained in quarantine until he was cleared by NT Border Control.

A SecureNT spokesperson said the school could continue operations because Mr Graham had left Victoria three days before it was declared a hot spot by Chief Minister Michael Gunner.

In a letter to parents, Catholic Education NT director Greg O’Mullane said he was “extremely disappointed” in the mistake and apologised to the Mother Teresa school community.
