LEGO CARD

You will need:

Lego blocks

Colourful card and white paper

Glue

Thin black texta

Activity

Make Mum’s face light up with this delightful Mother’s Day card made from Lego.

Use different sized Lego blocks to show different members of your family — or just Mum and you or Mum and all her kids.

Glue the Lego sticks onto a colourful piece of card.

Now cut out some eyes from white paper and draw the eyeballs. Stick these on the Lego blocks. You can use ready-made stick-on eyes if you have some.

Then use a black texta to draw the arms and the balloon strings. You can draw love hearts or balloons, or use love heart stickers if you have them.

Finally, write a message to Mum on the front and inside the card.

TREE OF HEARTS

Thumb print art is a fun way to make family mementos. Make your own thumb print hearts tree using the free tree template from Kidspot and your child’s fingerprints to make the hearts.

What you need:

1 x free tree template from http://static.kidspot.com.au/cm_assets/79524/tree-template-pdf-20160118154116.pdf

1 x A2 sheet of paper

black marker pen

red paint

thumbs and fingers

Activity

Print out the tree template. Place it under a sheet of A2 layout paper and trace over the tree shape. You can add more branches if you like, or even make some of the branches longer … the template is just a guide to make it easier.

Now put a blob of red paint onto a paper plate or an ice cream container lid and then swirl it out with a paintbrush to make it not so ‘blobby’ and thick.

Children should dip their thumbs into the red paint and use two thumb prints to form hearts all over the tree.

I LOVE MUM BECAUSE …

This is a reflective piece of writing about all the things you love about your mum.

Start by brainstorming out loud or writing reasons down of all the reasons why you love your mum. Include all the things she does for you but also all the qualities you love about her and all the things she does to make you feel loved and special.

Your writing could start with “I love my mum because …” and you could start each sentence with that phrase.

Or you may like to put it in a poem, or write it as a thankyou letter. The format is up to you. The purpose behind your writing though is to let mum know you love and appreciate her for all that she does and all that you love about her.

This writing will be a great keepsake for her for years to come and something she will treasure always.

Compose your writing, edit and proofread and get another adult (not mum) to check over it. Then publish it on nice paper with your best handwriting and a lovely picture of you and mum.
