Amazon Australia has launched a recruitment blitz to hire 1,400 seasonal workers ahead of its massive mid-year sales.

The tech giant will hire workers to help pick, pack and ship orders at Amazon fulfilment centres and logistics sites across Australia.

The move will boost Amazon’s workforce for the busy July sales period, which takes in the Prime Day shopping event.

No previous experience or formal qualifications are required for the positions, Amazon Australia said, which will include 350 jobs in Victoria, 700 roles in NSW, 200 jobs in Queensland and 70 in South Australia and Tasmania.

It comes after Amazon Australia revealed last August that it would build an automated mega warehouse in Melbourne’s Craigieburn.

The fulfilment centre, which will be the largest warehouse in Australia, is set to open in 2025.

It was also announced earlier this year that free next day delivery would be rolled out for Prime members in a number of cities across the country.

“We offer all kinds of jobs for all kinds of people and are focused on creating a safe and inclusive workplace for them,” Amazon Australia’s human relations operations director Jacqui Marker said.

“We have 1,400 roles to fill with motivated and enthusiastic people looking for a short-term role.

“We provide on-the-job training so no previous experience or formal qualifications are required and Prime Day always promises to be an exciting time of year.”

Flexible working arrangements are also on offer for prospective employees through Amazon Flex, which allows workers to deliver packages using their own vehicles at their own convenience.

Arno Lenior, director of Prime, Amazon Australia said the sales offered shoppers big savings at a time when Australians were struggling with the cost of living.

“As Australians continue to grapple with rising living costs and seek ways to stretch their budgets, we are working hard to secure huge savings for members this Prime Day.

“Members will be able to take advantage of deep discounts from popular brands and fantastic small and medium Aussie businesses, and enjoy the convenience of fast, free delivery on eligible items through Prime.”

The seasonal roles could lead to opportunities for permanent employment, the tech giant said, with workers able to access benefits including life insurance, income protection insurance, and highly subsidised private health insurance for their immediate family.

Amazon Australia worker Samarpan Kapoor, who became a full-time employee after starting out as a seasonal worker, said the work provided plenty of opportunities.

“Our team is so diverse, with people from all sorts of backgrounds and experiences,” he said.

“I learn something new on the job every day.

“We get additional training and educational support to help us develop and grow.

“Working at Amazon is what you make of it - there are so many opportunities available, it’s up to you to take them.”
