WOOLWORTHS’ Cavenagh St supermarket could soon see more than 50 new carparks and a third entry, with two blocks of land on Searcy St proposed to be incorporated into the facility.
Project applicants MasterPlan SA Pty Ltd have submitted a proposal to develop “changes to the carparking area associated with an existing commercial development (Woolworths)”.
The upgrades would see 26 bays removed in the carpark, currently holding 148 spaces, while the two lots on Searcy St would house 52 carparks, making for a total of 176. A disabled car park will also be introduced, making a total of three.

The 52 new parking bays would measure 2.6m wide, an extra 10cm on existing spaces.
One customer was apprehensive about the plan but said the car park had to be redone.
“It’ll be sad to see the houses go but the car park could certainly do with an upgrade,” he said.
According to a Cirqa Traffic report, the carpark generates almost 800 trips during Saturday peak hour.
A Woolworths spokesman said the carpark upgrade would greatly improve accessibility to the shopping centre.
“Our Darwin store is popular with shoppers and we’re keen to expand the carpark for their convenience,” she said.
“We’re pleased to have lodged our plans and will work closely with all parties as we progress the application.”
Shade structures would be built over 30 of the new spaces.
The two vacant lots purchased in Searcy St were previously used for not-for-profit organisations.
The development would also see entry and exit points added to the carpark on Searcy St.
Submissions on the upgrades can be made until midnight on Friday.
