‘We love our community and we love helping out as much as we can’: Local IGA in the running for top gong

COMMITMENT to the community has earned a local IGA store named in the top five IGA Community stores for South Australia and NT

COMMITMENT to the community and wanting to belong have earned the IGA store at Zuccoli named in the top five IGA Community stores for South Australia and NT.

On Friday night in Adelaide the store’s owners Shellie and Kenny Lay will know if they are the number one.

They are the only Northern Territory IGA to make it through to the finals of the IGA SA/NT Awards of Excellence.

The Zuccoli IGA is a finalist in the Community Awards category and a win will send them off to the IGA national awards.

In the two years Shellie and Kenny have had the IGA store they have become renown for their giving nature and support for the community and the groups that make it up.

This includes front of shop community barbecues where they provide all the food products with all the proceeds taken away by the community group running it on the day.

Local schools are also beneficiaries of the IGA Zuccoli’s community spirit.

The store has an instore mini-swap children’s book library and also has a JP come in for the community.

During COVID-19 when markets were closed the couple offered food trucks the opportunity to come and trade in front of their business to help the vendors capture some of the customer traffic.

The couple also help Foodbank either during its food drives or by donating themselves.

“We love our community and we love helping out as much as we can,” Shellie said.

“It is all part of being a member our community. We really are excited about our recognition.”
