A LAWYER-turned-hairdresser, a church leader and a finance broker are some of the newly-announced candidates running for the Territory Alliance in this year’s NT election.
Territory Alliance leader Terry Mills announced a new group of endorsed candidates today who will be running in the August election.
He also confirmed that Steven Klose will return to recontest the seat of Johnston after being defeated by Labor’s Joel Bowden in Saturday’s by-election.
The four new candidates are:
David Ridley, founder of the Priceless Movement — an advocacy group strongly opposed to the NT’s new sex worker laws — is the Territory Alliance’s candidate for Wanguri.
The father of five is also the senior leader of the Glory City Church.
He works as the manager of housing and homelessness at Somerville Community Services.
He is the former director of Youth for Christ NT, an not-for-profit organisation working in the juvenile justice system, and believes the area is in “desperate need” of reform.
“Both the community and young people are suffering because of the (juvenile justice system),” he said.
“We need a system that emphasises swift justice and young people taking responsibility for their actions, coupled with a deep understanding of the key drivers behind anti-social behaviour.”

Darwin city hairdresser Gary Strachan has been chosen to run for Port Darwin.
The Hair Dude owner has been a small-business owner in Darwin for more than 30 years and has also previously worked as a lawyer.
He recently set up an indigenous not-for-profit hair training program which will train people from remote and urban parts of the Territory, including inmates.

Aircraft engineer Caleb Cardno will run for the seat of Karama.
He works as a training manager, teaching trade skills to middle school students in Darwin.
“I am throwing my support behind Territory Alliance because it is the party that is committed to problem solving and creating policy alongside the community, that truly listens,” he said.
The father of two has lived in Karama since 2015 and in his spare time enjoys bee keeping, and keeps both European and Sugarbag Native Bee hives.

Finance broker Andrew Harley, whowill run for the seat of Nelson, runs his own business subcontracting to Easy Loans at Coolalinga/Fannie Bay.
Territory Alliance said he has been in the industry for over a decade and currently manages a portfolio of close to $200 million dollars’ worth of lending.

The father of two is also a volunteer firefighter with the Virginia/Bees Creek fire brigade and a qualified Justice of the Peace.
