TERRITORIANS are being asked to ‘rally the troops’ and get their mates and family up to the NT this summer by taking advantage of the Government’s $5 million summer sale.

NT government offers cash incentives to boost tourism numbers

TERRITORIANS are being asked to ‘rally the troops’ and get their mates and family up to the NT this summer by taking advantage of the Government’s $5 million summer sale.

Southerners will be able to save up to a grand on their holiday, with every $1000 spent travellers getting $200 off.

Tourism NT is calling on residents to invite their loved ones up to enjoy the freedom of the NT – restriction free and safe.

Tourism NT executive general manager marketing Tony Quarmby said the summer sale, which began yesterday, had already showed early success with bookings in the order of $7000 being received.

“It benefits Territorians that haven’t seen their friends and family and this is an opportunity to bring them here in an affordable way while also supporting the tourism industry,” he said.

Mr Quarmby said it was the perfect opportunity to experience the NT during the Wet and take advantage of discounts unlikely to be seen again.

He said approximately 45 per cent of tourism was international visitors and the idea was to fill that gap with interstate visitors and locals exploring their backyard.

Territory croc wrangler and tourism operator Matt Wright encouraged locals to promote their own back yard to family and friends.

“The incentive to get up here, it’s a 20 per cent discount to get up here and get on tours, it’s also a real incentive for tour operators to continue trading,” he said.

His day tours at the Top End Safari Camp and Tiwi Island Retreat will continue during the Wet.

“More people need to bring family and friends up to see what it’s like, the landscape changes so much,” he said.

Fannie Bay resident Conor McLeod said his parents Margie and Steve McLeod would be making the most of the deal and booking a trip up to Darwin from Adelaide via the Ghan.

“They were going to come up in May – start of the dry – but COVID got in the way and now there’s these really good sales which means that they are now going to be coming up February on the Ghan,” he said.

While camping may be off the cards Mr McLeod said his parents would be able to go fishing for barra and enjoy the sights of Darwin with out the crowds.

Ms McLeod said the deal solidified their decision to go on the Ghan.

They booked yesterday, saving $1000 on the trip.

“It’s an amazing opportunity to use that rebate and support the NT tourism industry,” she said.

“We thought it would be really nice to come up and see it in the Wet.”

LIMITED TIME: New NT News subscription offer: $1 a week for the first 12 weeks

To redeem the deal bookings must be made through partners, such as travel agents, and will be valid for bookable flights, accommodation, tours and attractions or vehicle hire.

The discount is redeemed upon completion of the booking.

The booking must be made and taken between now and March 31 next year.

For locals the next tourism voucher round begins on November 2.
