Cryptocurrency exchange Swyftx’s headquarters at Milton is bursting at the seams with two recent landmark deals powering up the company and there are expectations of more good news on the way.

Three months after acquiring New Zealand based Easy Crypto, which also has operations in South Africa, Swyftx has just acquired US-focused Melbourne-based Calab & Brown believed to be worth between $100m and $200m.

The acquisition is the largest crypto deal ever in Australasia and comes after the company emerged from a number of challenges including a failed merger and a downturn in trading volumes which saw up to 90 staff leaving.

Since taking over as CEO a little over 12 months ago, seasoned operator Jason Titman has been a trail blazer on the Australian crypto scene and sources tell us that he has a lot more planned for Swyftx.

The six-year-old crypto exchange – which sponsors the Brisbane Lions, the NRL and several BBL teams – was founded by young whiz kids Alex Harper and Angus Goldman, who met at coding camp.

We understand that while their Milton office is bursting at the seams they apparently have more than 50 per cent of their staff outside of Brisbane, across Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, UK, US, Philippines and India.

Green power

Some of the greenest thumbs in Australia are heading to the Sunshine Coast on the weekend with the Queensland Garden Show returning to the Nambour Showgrounds for its 41st year. Over three days, the event will feature more than 360 exhibitors and displays – from boutique nurseries to rare plant growers, more than 60,000 plants will be on sale daily, alongside an incredible selection of gardening must-haves, display gardens and kids activities.

Spanning more than 7ha, the event also boasts Australia’s largest gardening speaker program and is expected to attract 40,000 people over three days and inject millions into the local economy.

Expect to see some familiar faces from ABC’s Gardening Australia, including Costa Georgiadis, Jerry Coleby-Williams, Sophie Thomson and Millie Ross.

There will be more than 360 exhibitors and displays at this year's Queensland Garden Show at Nambour.

Helping hands

Corporate Queensland’s help for the homeless has extended beyond the Vinnies CEO Sleepout that brought hundreds of bosses out last month to raise funds.

The state’s community clubs have been helping those doing it tough in the cold months with regular donations of food and clothing.

Clubs Queensland CEO Kelly Egan, who knows the cold weather well from his NRL roles including time at the Canberra Raiders, commended the outreach.

Club Services Ipswich continues to provide twice weekly hot breakfasts for schoolchildren, pantry donations to Outside School Hours Care, weekly fruit deliveries to five local schools and provision of jumpers, socks and underwear for schools to distribute to students.

CSI General Manager Natalia Onoprichuk says the cost of living and rental crisis continued to impact many families: “We purchased 50 jumpers for schoolchildren last year and we will now significantly increase that purchase to extend our reach to Goodna Street Life and Helping Our Homies.”

Egan said some of the state’s 1200 community clubs were keeping an eye out.

“Our members feel it’s their mandate to support their community and this winter season their community support was needed more than ever.,” he says.
