THE steaks are sizzling once again in Palmerston with Hog’s Breath reopening after closing its doors for refits and to adapt to a nationwide handover.
Palmerston and Casuarina Hog’s Breath franchisee Cormac McCarthy said the company made the bold call to reopen ahead of Christmas, revamped and ready for hungry shoppers.
“We opened last Monday, we’ve done an internal refit, not a big one but relighting, everything’s been resealed and we’re just trying to get back into business,” he said.
“There’s normally a lull before Christmas but we’re unseasonally quiet, no doubt because people are thinking we’re closed and the message hasn’t gotten out.
“We just want to let people know we’re open for business and to come on down and have a steak.”

Mr McCarthy said he was excited about the broader company’s future, with the Hog’s Breath brand recently being sold back to its founders.
“It was a temporary close but the franchise system nationally has sold back to the original founders,” he said.
“These are the guys who brought Hog’s Breath out to Australia 30 years ago, so it’s an interesting narrative in its own right.
“The closure was in part related to that and we just wanted to do some renovations.
“Locally, we own both restaurants in Darwin, one in Casuarina and one in Palmerston, and we’re in agreements with the new owners and it’s very exciting.”
