QANTAS has started its three-times-a-week, Sydney-Darwin-Hong Kong freight service.
A Boeing 767 Freighter aircraft – with the capacity to hold 56 tonnes of fresh produce – began the Hong Kong service on Friday.
The stopover in Darwin provides a platform for local producers to reach an international market up to three times per week.
NT Airports Chief Executive Officer Tony Edmondstone said the direct air link will provide local growers and suppliers the opportunity for their produce to be delivered overseas and interstate, fresher and faster than ever before.
