THE Territory Government says the NT is in a prime position to become Australia’s next large Data Centre hub.
It is reaching out to the private sector to set up a commercial Data Centre in Darwin.
Chief Minister Michael Gunner said making Darwin a data centre hub will help with a Territory economic revival.
The government is seeking expression of interests to develop and operate a Darwin commercial Data Centre.
“This is all about jobs — jobs for today, jobs for tomorrow, jobs for Territorians,” Mr Gunner said.
“We’ve got the land, we’ve got the energy supply, and we’ve got the people to Darwin the new home for this emerging industry.
“We are building job-creating infrastructure, we are putting local businesses and local workers first, and we are investing in the permanent jobs of the future.”

The Territory Labor government is seeking expression of interests from the private sector to develop and operate the commercial Data Centre in Darwin.
It says Data Centres are the backbone of the new global technology environment and a commercial Data Centre hub in Darwin will generate significant private investment and create job opportunities in construction and the ongoing operation of the facilities.
It says the NT has the following critical building blocks for commercial Data Centres:
– High speed, low latency connectivity;
– Power availability and competitive pricing; and
– Suitable and competitively priced land.

The government says there are multiple planned routes to connect Darwin into a number of international sub-sea cables that are at various stages of development — making us the perfect place for a Data Centre.
