The lucky winners of the $30 million division-one prize have been identified as a group of golf mates. They have big plans for the money.

Lotto: Tips and tricks that could win you millions

The search for the lucky winner of the $30 million division-one prize from Tuesday night’s Oz Lotto forward is over, with a group of golf friends from Western Australia coming forward to claim it.

The eight mates in their forties found out they’d won the top prize while eating dinner on Tuesday, with their ticket-holder ringing around to share the news.

“I started making calls to the rest of the group to tell them we’d won,” he told Lott officials.

“One of the guys didn’t believe me and went back to eating his dinner.

“Another group member told me that if it was a prank, he would come over, and I’d be in a lot of trouble.”

The Lott says the group didn’t claim the win until Wednesday because everyone was too busy celebrating. They stayed up through the night sharing their plans for the winnings, which may include paying off their mortgages and jetting away on holidays.

One of the men, who had driven the same car since he was on his P-plates, said he couldn’t wait for an upgrade.

The winning ticket was purchased online from Lotterywest.

The jackpot follows a spate of recent wins for residents in the western part of the county, including a lucky family who won $40 million in Powerball last month.

Lotterywest chief executive Ralph Addis said it’s been an incredible start to 2023 for Lotto in the state, with a total of 29 Division One wins across all games so far.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome yet another big win for WA, only a few weeks after celebrating a Swan Valley family taking home $40 million in Powerball,” he said in a statement.

“The WA community is also a winner following tonight’s draw, with more than $4.23 million raised thanks to players over the five-week jackpot roll which will contribute to our grants program.”

Six lucky residents across the country were also lucky enough to score just over $64,000 in the division two prize, while 88 others made a small fortune of $5185 by winning division three.

The lucky draw numbers needed to win a big pot of cash include 19, 47, 15, 46, 12, 9 and 21 and supplementary numbers 16, 34 and 30.

So far Oz Lotto draw 1521 was the biggest prize offered by the game this year, along with this week’s Powerball draw offering an equal amount of the winnings.

“This week, Aussies have the chance to win $30 million twice with both Oz Lotto on Tuesday night and Powerball on Thursday night offering this giant prize,” The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said.

Mr Hart said the $30 million jackpot winner would be the sixth division one win in 2023.

“As we head into the cooler months, your plans for the future could be just heating up with an Oz Lotto prize of this magnitude,” he said.

“We’ve had a steady stream of Oz Lotto division one wins so far this year, which is why we haven’t seen the jackpot climb too high … until now.

“This $30 million prize is the highest Oz Lotto has reached so far in 2023.

“Will we have another division one winner this week or will the Oz Lotto jackpot soar higher for next week’s draw? Only time will tell.”

Last year, the most frequently drawn numbers were: 9, 37, 27, 5 and 24, according to the Oz Lotto.

While the least frequently drawn numbers were: 26, 15, 43, 35 and 34.

According to The Lott, the five Oz Lotto division one winning entries this year have all been QuickPicks – a lottery terminal selected the numbers for the player.

The popular lotto option is different from a marked entry, where people choose the numbers on their tickets.

How it works

Anyone keen to play Oz Lotto, which happens every Tuesday, have to choose seven of their favourite numbers and wait for the yellow balls to drop from a barrel.

The game has 47 balls numbered one to 47, and the seven winning numbers are randomly selected.

There are seven prize divisions, but to win division one, the player must have all seven numbers match with the seven winning numbers for the draw.

According to The Lott, five division one wins have scored over $63 million in division one prize money this year, with two of the five division one winning entries in Victoria and one each in South Australia, NSW and Tasmania.

To participate, you can grab a ticket either in-store at a licensed lottery outlet, or online at thelott.com or via The Lott app.

Registered division one winners will be contacted after tonight’s draw.

Tickets can be checked online or at any licensed lottery outlet. Your ticket can also be scanned on The Lott app.

The Oz Lotto draw closes at 7.30pm (AEST) every Tuesday night.
