NT WORKSAFE is warning workers about the importance of conducting a risk assessment before doing potentially dangerous tasks after two serious incidents were reported in September.
The first incident involved a worker suffering serious injuries to his forearm, requiring emergency surgery, and the second involved a forklift tipping over while lifting something.
In a statement from NT WorkSafe, both incidents took place in late September, a risk assessment was not completed before doing the task in both cases and “the equipment used may not have been the most suitable for the task at hand”.
“A risk assessment would have highlighted the appropriateness of the equipment used,” the statement said.
“All workers are reminded they have a duty under the Northern Territory’s work health and safety legislation to take reasonable care of their own health and safety.”
