NT mango picking season hits a sweet spot with 400k trays worth being picked a week

THE NT mango harvest season is almost in full swing with about 400,000 mango trays being dispatched every week.
The Territory mango industry brings about $130m to the NT economy each year.
NT Mango Industry Association president Leo Skliros said yields were shaping up to be about average this year, with the Darwin crop forecast sitting at 2.8 million trays.
“Picking has been full-on recently up here in Darwin’s rural area, and things should be kicking in around Katherine this week as well,” he said.
“Finding skilled workers has been a particular challenge this year. I have contractors based in Victoria who sent some workers up and quarantined.”

It comes as the NT Mango Industry Association prepares to host a family-friendly Mango Madness Festival at the Darwin Waterfront on October 25.
