Hospitality NT’s chief executive officer Alex Bruce said the industry is receiving the latest news of tight coronavirus restrictions starting to be eased with great joy.

Mr Bruce said he and the industry are looking forward to seeing what the Chief Minister’s coronavirus plan contains.

“However it seems if we can get everything done we can realistically open by mid May,” Mr Bruce said.

“We understand that we have a duty of care to our staff as well as taking steps to ensure the community is confident to return to our venues.

“But the Chief Minister has said some things heartening to us.

Mr Bruce pointed to the coronavirus safety plan which will clear for people to understand and not be administratively burdensome.

“Once we have made the commitment to the principals businesses are good to go,” he said.

“We met with the NT’s chief health officer yesterday and discussed that there will be principals that we will adhere to and then we can get back to doing what we do.

“The conversation is ongoing with government and we asked when are we classified as COVID free and he said when there are no more active cases.

“We could be days away from being COVID free.”
