THE CHIEF Minister is foreshadowing new announcements as as he and his Cabinet starts auditing the work of the Public Service, which was ordered of them following the handing down of the Territory Economic Reconstruction Commission report late last year.
Mr Gunner instructed NT Government departmental heads to report back by February this year on how they will play their part in smashing through all the timelines in the Territory Economic Reconstruction Report.
Now two weeks into March, industry groups have raised concerns about timelines being met.
“I gave the public service some serious home work over the Christmas period – to report back to Cabinet in February on how we will create jobs and make the Territory the easiest place to do business in Australia,” Mr Gunner said.
“Cabinet is auditing the work of the Public Service now and we will provide feedback on the plans.
“There will be a series of new announcements soon, but we are already cracking on with projects like the ’Can Do Territory’ portal. This was launched for businesses four weeks ago and is cutting through red tape.
“Business is already responding positively.
“We are taking the same urgency to our economy and creating jobs this year, as we did to saving lives when the health crisis emerged last year. We have green lit new major projects and seen the announcement of HyperOne.”

Property Council NT chief executive officer Ruth Palmer said it was important to know who or what entity was responsible for completing all TERC recommendations and would the department’s Key Performance Indicators be amended to incorporate the TERC recommendations?
“The TERC report provides a comprehensive and promising blueprint for the Territory’s future, yet it is currently only a blueprint that will require significant prioritisation and support to become a reality,” she said.
