WELL, this is it. We’ve cracked the Top 5 in our Territory Rich List.

Only the truly super rich breathe the rarified air on this end of the list.

Yesterday we counted down Numbers 9 to 7 — exclusively on the NT News’ website, ntnews.com.au

Today we reveal our next three entries — Numbers 6 to 4 (whose combined wealth is an eye-watering, estimated $18 billion) — exclusively here in our interactive graphic below.

Just click on each picture to read all about each of our list makers.

We’ve been counting down our list all week and today’s entries are our penultimate group, with our Top 3 to finally be revealed tomorrow.

The 15 wealthiest individuals and families with significant ties to the Territory — either through living, working, studying or growing up here, or through having major current or proposed investments or holdings in the NT — make up our countdown.

The Territory Rich List ranks entries by their estimated net worths and has been compiled using publicly available information.

There are some very recognisable names on the list but there have no doubt also been plenty of surprises.

There are some names you may not have ever heard of, and some that you may not have realised had such strong ties to the Territory.

The first entry to make our list yesterday was high-profile Australian QC, Allan Myers — worth an estimated $899 million — who owns the Tipperary Group of stations in the Northern Territory, the entity that operates the huge Tipperary Station, about 160 km south of Darwin, near Adelaide River.

Myers has been investing in the NT’s agriculture sector for 30 years.

Next was Darwin’s famous Paspaley family — worth an estimated $1.06 billion — best known for their pearls business, but whose wealth is found across a diverse range of interests.

The Paspaleys were the first entry on our list worth more than a billion dollars

And finally, there was Chris Ellison — worth an estimated $1.13 billion — who left New Zealand to move to Darwin in the 1970s after leaving school at 15.

Ellison would eventually go on to become managing director of mining services company, Mineral Resources.

The estimated total wealth figures of our latest three entries today have been sourced from The Australian newspaper’s own annual rich list, The List: Australia’s Richest 250 for 2021.

That report profiles the influential movers and shakers in Australia, according to The Australian.

Here’s how it works:

While much of the wealth accumulated by Australia’s richest people is subject to anonymity, The Australian’s list takes into account net worth calculations based on public records, including property portfolios, share prices and investments.

The final results are based on wealth figures calculated in late February 2021.
