SPORTSBET has been fined and ordered to return funds after a man — who Sportsbet had identified as a problem gambler — deposited more than $40,000 into his account in just over a week after abstaining from gambling for 12 months.
The NT Racing Commission found Sportsbet did not provide an appropriate level of assistance to the man that is required by the industry’s code of practice.

The finding comes despite a Sportsbet representative contacting the man to make sure he was “betting within his means”, in a phone call that lasted 32 seconds.
The man will be repaid more than $20,000 in bets deemed unlawful and Sportsbet has been fined $8000.
