Shorelands Group’s Arthur Hamilton is being remembered as a construction innovator

The Northern Territory has lost one of the mainstays of the construction industry with the death of one of our greatest innovators. Read the tributes here.

Construction titan Arthur Hamilton, one of the driving forces behind the Shorelands Group, has died.

Family members announced his death in a social media post on Monday.

“With great sadness our dad Arthur Hamilton passed peacefully this morning 12.30am,” the post read.

His funeral will be held at 2pm on Friday, October 14 at the Darwin Convention Centre.

Mr Hamilton was born in Bournemouth, England and came to Australia in the late 1970s.

Years later when he returned with a visa, he and best mate – the late Doug “Whiskers” Palmer – began a crane hire business in 1989.

Shorelands would grow into one of the Territory’s leading construction companies, branching out into barge and freight logistics, transport and more.

Mr Hamilton is credited as an inspirational leader, renowned for strategic thinking and innovation.

An outpouring of grief for the family flowed on social media.

“Rest easy Arthur, my thoughts to this family and the Shorelands crew,” Lachlan Penley-Smith wrote.

“Sincere condolences Nicky and to everyone at Shorelands – RIP Arthur,” Lanh Phan said.

“My Condolences to the Hamilton family and the team at Shorelands,” Cola Maurirere wrote.

“Condolences to the family, a great life! Rest in Peace,” Solomon MP Luke Gosling wrote.

Chief Minister Natasha Fyles paid tribute to Mr Hamilton’s contribution to the NT community.

“My sincere condolences to the Hamilton family and everyone at Shorelands,” she said.

“The Territory was built by people like Arthur, his legacy will live on through his family and contribution to the NT. May he rest in peace.”

Former Helping People Achieve chief executive Tony Burns wrote: “Arthur Hamilton, you were such an amazing and incredible person for all who were lucky enough to have meet you. Honoured to have called You a true friend and mentor and thank you for inspiring and helping so many people along your journey and being a Territory Icon. Love ya mate xo.”

Mr Hamilton’s legacy lives on with his children Nicole, Meegan and Jack and several grandchildren.
