Businesses looking to lock-up their liquor may be eligible in up to $15,000 in security grants.
The Northern Territory Government has committed $9m for the Alcohol Secure and Safety program, to support businesses to upgrade their security to protect against break-ins.
Business Minister Paul Kirby said the program offered grants of up to $15,000 for the purchase of CCTV, security screens, roller shutters, barriers or cashier screens, enclosed cabinets, alarms, lighting and smoke cloak distraction systems.
He said eligible businesses will be able to have 75 per cent of the cost of security upgrades covered by the program.
Chief Minister Natasha Fyles said the program was part of a comprehensive crackdown on alcohol-fuelled crime and violence.
“Alcohol-related harm is one of the Territory’s biggest social challenges, with this government continuing to curb this issue,” Ms Fyles said.
“This Alcohol Secure program is part of a suite of measures to keep workers safe.
“The program is designed to help businesses increase the security of their liquor stock and improve the safety of their workers.”
The funding is available to licenced liquor operator, but is not available to unincorporated associations, liquor wholesalers, or mobile businesses.
To apply businesses must have a quote for their proposed works, and must complete all upgrades within six months of receiving the grant.
The Alcohol Secure and Safety program will close on 23 June 2024.
