THE first new subdivision in Central Australia in decades now features nine new houses.
The 30-lot subdivision at Hermannsburg, built by Asplum with a contingent of local workers, includes three houses completed last December and six that were recently handed-over to residents.
The four-bedroom modular homes were constructed off-site by Territory construction companies NT Link and Murray River North as part of the NT Government’s remote housing program.
Remote Housing and Town Camps Minister Chansey Paech was in Hermannsburg last Friday to present the keys to new tenants.
He said the families were thrilled with their new homes.

“Government has worked with the Hermannsburg community to deliver homes that suit their needs and lifestyle,” Mr Paech said. “Residents have been involved in this project all along – from selecting the area of scrub to be developed through to allocating the houses through their local Housing Reference Group.”
Mr Paech said the nine new homes were the first of 26 planned for Hermannsburg.
“We are also going to extend and improve 20 homes in the community through our Room to Breathe program as well as build an elevated water tank,” he said.
Mr Paech said the Government was building sustainable communities through jobs and business development to improve access to housing and reduce overcrowding towards better outcomes.
