Small Business Minister Paul Kirby recognised that it had been a “tough” couple of months for Territory businesses with the wet season and Omicon wave.
“there’s been a range of reasons why people haven’t been moving around as much,” Mr Kirby said.
“We really hope this will be a short sharp injection.
“We know these vouchers are a big hit with shoppers, but they’ve also proved to be a driving force in sales and businesses.”
More than 350 local Darwin businesses have signed up for the myDarwin scheme.

Owner Gella Catis said from a retail point-of-view, the timing could not be better.
“It’s a great idea because it’s injecting sales into the whole of Darwin,” she said. “February is usually the worst retail takings month of the year so this is definitely the right time.”
City of Darwin will this time contribute $200,000 from money collected from parking meters and NTG will double the contribution with $400,000. Mayor Kon Vatskalis said a number of factors had made business tough for local traders.
“We want to do what we can to help them through this lean patch, because I believe Darwin is on the edge of a period of exciting growth,” Mr Vatskalis said.
“I am hopeful that with border restrictions removed and the onset of the Dry pending, local business is going to become very busy again.”

The City of Darwin is supported by the Northern Territory Government, who are providing $400,000 of the cash injection.
The latest release is the 10th time the council have provided incentives for shopping local, as Covid continues to have an impact on economic activity in the NT.
Fishing and Outdoor World in Darwin CBD’s is one retailer looking forward to the initiative returning.
“We do quite well out of it,” owner Ronald Voukolos said.
“It’s fairly large this time round, which is good,” he said.
City of Darwin interim chief executive Simone Saunders said the program was all about “stimulating the economy”.
“When myDarwin begins on March 4 it will be the tenth round of the scheme for City
of Darwin, meaning we have now injected more than $1.3 million into the initiative
since the first round in June 2020,” she said.
Ms Saunders said she hoped people took advantage of the vouchers.

at the same time helping out local business and the economy,” she said.
