The Territory’s newest McDonald’s restaurant has opened its doors, feeding more than $9.77 million into the local economy and creating more than 80 jobs across crew, barista, management and maintenance.
The new restaurant on the Stuart Highway at Berrimah is part of McDonald’s national commitment to open 100 new restaurants and remodel half of its existing restaurants by the end of 2025 – a move expected to deliver more than $1 billion into the national economy and create more than 40,000 jobs.
The latest Macca's – the 10th to start flipping burgers in the Territory – is fitted with modern decor and features a dual lane drive-through, dedicated partner delivery room, McCafé and PlayPlace for customers to enjoy.
It is also equipped with solar panels and LED lighting to help reduce emissions and energy use in the restaurant, a spokesperson said.
The restaurant is locally owned and operated by licensee Vicki-Leigh Lettice, who owns seven
Macca's across Berrimah, Casuarina North, Coolalinga, Johnston, Katherine, Ludmilla and Palmerston.
Ms Lettice joined Macca's as a crew member more than 36 years ago and now employs more than 800 Territorians.
Ms Lettice said she was delighted to provide Territorians with access to Macca's menu from a new location.
“We are excited to open our doors on McDonald’s Berrimah and provide jobs, training and
development opportunities for the local community,” she said.
“We look forward to serving up our great tasting, great quality menu and providing feel good
moments for our customers.
“The new restaurant will provide customers with a friendly and convenient place to access food and drinks, whether they’re popping in for a quick coffee or staying for lunch.”
As a key employer in the region, Ms Lettice said she was committed to providing training and
development opportunities for all employees.
“McDonald’s invests millions of dollars into training and development initiatives each year, offering nationally recognised certifications in the food and retail sectors,” she said.
“We are passionate about supporting the professional development of our people and providing
workplace skills applicable to any career.
“As a local business, we are proud to support local charities and groups that are important to our customers and people, including Northern Territory Cricket, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Swimming Northern Territory.”
McDonald’s is currently hiring a number of crew, barista, management and maintenance roles in restaurants across the Darwin area.
