Katherine Outback Experience launches glamping in a first for the region

Glamping is now available in Katherine, with a local tourism business launching a set of luxurious tents allowing visitors to camp out under the stars in style.

GLAMPING is now available in Katherine, with a local tourism business launching a set of luxurious tents allowing visitors to camp out under the stars in style.

Katherine Outback Experience installed 10, 5m bell tents, provided by camping accommodation provider Flash Camp, at its Collins Rd, Uralla premises earlier this month to cater for an event in Katherine hosted by Tourism NT.

The business has since decided to keep the tents in place.

Owner Annabel Curtain said the new offering marked the first time glamping had been available in the Katherine region as well as the first time Katherine Outback Experience – best known for putting on outback shows and horse riding lessons – had offered any kind of accommodation.

Ms Curtain said the tents allowed the business to offer something different from other tourism operators in the region and give visitors a more well-rounded outback experience.

“The tents are quite modern and luxurious, and they offer a very modern-style twist on camping,” she said.

“Guests have the option of a kingsize bed or a twin share and the option of packaging different things into it, whether it’s a dinner, the outback show, horse riding or other amazing local attractions.

“It’s really important to us (the tents) are not treated like hotel rooms but that it’s more of an experience. We’re trying to capture that country hospitality, that warmness and that communal style of living … (such as) nights around the campfire and long table dinners.”
