JETSTAR has started offering six flights per week between Darwin and Brisbane due to demand, signalling renewed confidence in the NT’s domestic tourism market.
The airline added four new flights on Wednesday — meaning Jetstar, Qantas and Virgin combined now offer up to 15 non-stop services per week between Darwin and Brisbane.
It comes after Jetstar suspended most of its flights between Darwin and Brisbane since April 1 until August 18 due to a “significant drop” in demand.
A Jetstar spokeswoman said the flights were put back on in response to travel demand and the recent easing of border restrictions.
“We continue to monitor demand and restrictions across the country and adjust our schedule accordingly,” she said.
NT Airports chief executive Tony Edmondstone said it was a positive step forward for the tourism industry, with QLD travellers generally making up 25 per cent of all interstate visitors to the Darwin and surrounds.
“The Top End welcomed 176,000 visitors from Queensland last year, worth approximately $224 million in direct tourism expenditure”, he said.

“That said, it’s worth considering that the indirect value of these visitors is often worth 5-7 times that amount to the local economy.”
