AN empty block of land in Berrimah will soon be transformed into a new boutique housing estate called Mirawood, featuring 36 large allotments.
Leading Australian developer Intrapac Property has 36 lots on offer — varying in size from 800sq m to 4800sq m — in a new estate located at the corner of Amy Johnson Ave and Boulter Rd.
A master plan of Mirawood shows the estate will also include a neighbourhood park and a 14,000sq m designated conservation zone.
Intrapac Property chief operating officer Max Shifman said each property would be sensitively landscaped to attract an abundance of native wildlife.
“This project is designed around carefully preserving an area of conservation land, which functions as a water retention basin in the wet season, and in turn, creates great biodiversity in the dry,” he said.
“All the native birds and plants come to life there, which is fantastic for the area.”
Mr Shifman said there would certainly be space for grand designs at Mirawood.
“Most other estates around Darwin are creating small lots which limits the form and materiality of the new homes,” he said.
“At Mirawood, we hope the larger size and orientation of the site will encourage people to design more traditional and climate-responsive two-storey tropical homes.
“The larger properties are for people dreaming of a big house with a shed and a swimming pool, perhaps somewhere to put their boat.
“But even our smallest lots are extremely spacious, more than double the size of a standard new lot in Darwin.”
Mr Shifman said Mirawood also represented a significant boost to local industry.
“This development will provide immediate economic benefit to the Northern Territory,” he said.
“It means more opportunities for local builders and the construction sector.
“Intrapac is proud of the great investment we have made in Darwin, and we’re here to see things through for the long term.”
