Darwin to host key Indigenous economic forum

Darwin convention centre will host a major Aboriginal economic forum from Wednesday. See who will be speaking.

Albanese ‘alienated’ around ‘60 per cent’ of the nation in Voice referendum

The 11th Aboriginal Economic Development Forum will take place at Darwin Convention Centre from Wednesday.

The forum will provide an opportunity for Aboriginal businesses and entrepreneurs from across the Territory to showcase products and services to key stakeholders with an interest in Aboriginal economic development.

One of Australia’s largest Aboriginal economic development-focused events, keynote speakers include former ABC opinion-setter Stan Grant, publisher Professor Wayne Bergmann and academic Professor Peter Yu.

The forum program includes a welcome reception, plenary sessions with keynote presentations, breakout sessions and a marketplace showcasing Aboriginal businesses and services and programs from across the Territory.

Exhibitors will have an opportunity to showcase products from 2.30pm Wednesday with the opening ceremony at the Convention Centre starting at 5.30pm.

NT Indigenous Business Network chief executive Jerome Cubillo will open the event before a welcome to country from Larrakia Nation.

Northern Territory Indigenous Business Network chairman Kim Hill will speak and there will be welcoming addresses from federal Indigenous Australians Minister Linda Burney and Chief Minister Natasha Fyles.

Professor Yu, vice president, First Nations portfolio at Australian National University, will deliver the first keynote speech.

Second day discussions include Mr Grant’s keynote speech ‘The word after no – where to after the referendum’, which will be followed by a 45-minute panel discussion focusing on navigating the post referendum landscape for ‘blak’ business.

Executive chairman of the National Indigenous Times Professor Wayne Bergmann will speak on the challenges and opportunities for Aboriginal economic inclusion.

On Friday, Senator Malarndirri McCarthy will deliver a keynote titled ‘Our voice, our future: Reclaiming our rightful place after referendum’.
