An international confectionery retailer will open its long-awaited store in Darwin’s Casuarina Square, welcome news for the city’s largest shopping centre amid a number of high-profile departures in recent years.

Shopping centre management took to social media to confirm Kandy4U, which promises confectionery from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Mexico, would open near Cotton On on Friday, March 8.

“Explore a treasure trove of delectable treats, from nostalgic classics to trendy delights,” the post said.

According to the post, opening day would feature “special promotions, giveaways, and sweet surprises”.

The new tenant will be welcome news for Sentinel Property Group, Casuarina Square’s owner, amid a number of high-profile departures.

The NT News was able to count at least 10 vacancies during a recent walk-through of the centre.

The two areas in the centre undergoing the greatest period of flux are the Quarter and the food court.

Within the Quarter, 2023 proved to be a shocker, with Saltlick Grill, The Groove Train, and Yam’s Bakehouse and Cafe all closing between January and September.

This year has started more positively for the Quarter, with the addition of Filipino restaurant Kasama Cafe.

Within the food court, the Territory’s first ever McDonald’s, which opened in 1993, called it quits on Boxing Day at the conclusion of its lease.

A Casuarina Square spokesman was previously unable to reveal whether the centre’s leasing team was in negotiations with a new operator to take over the tenancy.

Elsewhere in the food court, Sushi Sushi has closed temporarily to undergo a facelift, Korean fried chicken outfit Nene Chicken is under new management, and Sunshine Kebabs has been replaced by Casuarina Kebabs & Biryani House.
