Arctic Insulated Panels enters new R & D phase as rapid rise continues

An advanced Territory manufacturer is exploring new ways to grow their business. Read what’s planned.

A homegrown business is embarking on an exciting new research and development project which will significantly boost the Territory’s manufacturing capacity.

A leading manufacturer of high-performance thermal insulated panels based at East Arm, Arctic Insulated Panels opened its doors this month to a Commonwealth delegation to discuss the future of advanced manufacturing in the Northern Territory.

Included in the tour were Pegah Maasoumi and Shelley Brook from the Department of Industry, Science and Resources and Charmaine Phillips, Director of the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre.

Arctic Insulated Panels general manager Justin Cen said he wanted the delegation to see the opportunities and challenges associated with advanced manufacturing in the Territory.

“The visit offered a great opportunity for everyone to see the innovative work happening at Arctic Insulated Panels and the advanced manufacturing processes and supply chains that fuel the company,” Mr Cen said.

“The visit highlighted the increasing importance of local businesses in shaping the national manufacturing sector.”

Arctic Insulated Panels director Gary Burns said the site tour reflected the businesses’ pride in its output.

“It was a pleasure to host such a knowledgeable group of industry leaders,” he said. “This visit really emphasises the value of collaboration in driving innovation, and we’re proud of the role we’re playing in advancing manufacturing excellence in the Northern Territory.”

Arctic’s latest commitment to research and development will involve securing a state-of-the-art Italian-designed mixing head that can blend up to eight different chemicals simultaneously.

“This technology is crucial in Arctic’s mission to develop a world-leading insulation product in block form,” Mr Burns said.

“This will be suitable for applications like soffit, cavity and floor insulation.”

Mr Burns said the project would introduce an advanced polyisocyanurate process to produce high-performance insulation boards.

Mr Cen said Arctic provides product for construction projects across the Territory and that it has about 30 people either employed or contacted with the company.
