THREE Central Australian cattle stations, Narwietooma, Derwent and Glen Helen Station, have been bought by Hale River Holdings owned by Tim and Emily Edmunds from Napperby Station, for $38.5 million.

The stations cover around 565,800 hectares northwest of Alice Springs.

This takes Hale River Holdings land holdings in Central Australia to more than a million hectares with a carrying capacity of around 40,000 head of cattle.

The Edmunds bought the properties from fellow cattle industry identities Tony and Pam Davis.

The Davis’ own Amburla and Hamilton Downs Stations. They purchased Narwietooma Station for $8.75 million in November 2015. The same year they paid $11.5 million (including 8000 head of cattle) for The Derwent and Glen Helen.

The Edmunds sold their historic property and homestead Kadlunga, situated just west of Mintaro in South Australia’s Clare Valley to return to Central Australia.

Kadlunga is one of South Australia’s best-known farming properties.

The 22-title property measures 2367.73ha or 23.67sq km. In comparison, the Adelaide city square measures 10.5sq km.

The Edmunds added another 1600ha, and made significant improvements to the homestead and farming infrastructure before selling in 2019.

Last year Mr Edmunds entered into a long-term contract with Mr Davis to buy the 259,000ha Narwietooma and the 308,000ha Derwent and Glen Helen stations.

Since then they have been busy undertaking millions of dollars worth of infrastructure improvements.

Mr Edmunds said his plans are to be able to breed, grow and fatten cattle on one aggregation.

The three properties have their own management teams.
