A SIZZLE from the BBQ and a splatter from the fryer are the sounds coming from Darwin’s newest eaterie, Bannsang Korean Restaurant, which opens its doors today.
Run by a husband and wife team, Yeri Kim will run the front of shop while Justin Cha heads up the kitchen, after previously running the sushi bars at the Nightcliff and CBD Woolworths stores.

“Darwin is so multicultural. We have a small Korean population in Darwin so I think we can help express our Korean culture in Darwin better, along with the other Korean restaurants,” Ms Kim said.
“We do BBQ, but we don’t cook on the table like other Korean restaurants. We cook ours and bring them out to present them to the table.”
With cheesy corn, seafood pancakes and Korean fried chicken, Mr Cha already has a well-rounded menu, but the restaurant has more in store, waiting on its liquor licence and looking to include BBQs in their alfresco dining.
“We’ll make our menu brighter with special Korean cocktails and Korean drinks using Korean ingredients,” Ms Kim said.
“For the dry season we’re working on the front of the restaurant and we’re going to do BBQs outside during the dry season.”
