AN award-winning backpackers has shut its doors.

The Melaleuca on Mitchell – Darwin YHA, as well as the Value Inn Darwin, shut up shop on January 1.

No indication about when or if they will reopen or the reason for the closure has been given.

The backpackers, situated next to the Tap Bar, is one of three backpackers operations within the nightclub precinct.

In 2018 and 2017 the venue was awarded the NT Best Backpackers Hostel by TNT Magazine and a Brolga Award in 2013.

A notice, informing the public they had closed, was posted to the entrance door and on the establishment’s Facebook page.

“Unfortunately, today our doors are closing for the time being,” the post read.

“All guests who have bookings with us have been contacted via email regarding other arrangements.”

A similar post was also put on the Value Inn’s Facebook page.

The owners were contacted for comment.
