A RUMOURED relocation of the Casuarina McDonald’s store from Casuarina Square Shopping Centre to the external shopping strip on Bradshaw Terrace may be years in the making, with the fast food outlet contracted to Casuarina Square until 2024.

The NT News understands the long-term vision for McDonald’s is to demolish the derelict Home Timber and Hardware site and build a new McDonald’s restaurant there complete with a drive-through, events room and space for 100 patrons to dine in included.

The Casuarina Square store will eventually close.

However, a Casuarina Square spokeswoman said the fast food chain would continue to operate in the Casuarina Square food court for at least another couple of years and maintained a healthy relationship with the store.

“While (owners) GPT don’t discuss the commercial details of individual leases, we maintain a strong relationship with McDonald’s and continue to work closely with all of our retailers to deliver an environment in which they can thrive.”

Casuarina McDonald’s licensee Vicki Lettice owns several Top End McDonald’s stores, including Ludmilla and Katherine, and said she hoped to be considered as a licence holder for the proposed store but was unable to provide further comment at this point.
