Dollar down against greenback

THE Australian dollar is lower against its US counterpart, and the yen and the euro, as the local currency underperforms.

THE Australian dollar is lower against its US counterpart, and the yen and the euro, as the local currency underperforms while the greenback remains steady.

At 0635 AEDT on Friday, the Australian dollar was worth 76.25 US cents, down from 76.63 US cents on Thursday.

Westpac’s Imre Speizer said the Australian dollar fell from 76.65 US cents to 76.25 US cents overnight and he could see it falling further on Friday “This correction could push lower to the 76.00 area today,” he said in a morning note.

Meanwhile, while the US dollar was little changed against a basket of major currencies amid indications that US president Donald Trump’s healthcare bill vote could be delay in Congress.
