Welcome to the Trading Day blog for Thursday, April 3. The ASX 200 index closed down 0.9 per cent at 7859.7 points but well above a three-week low of 7768 as S&P 500 futures swung from down 4.1 per cent to down 2.8 per cent after Trump's latest tariff announcement which was overall worse than expected.
Wall Street's S&P 500 index and the Dow Jones index both closed 0.6 per cent higher and the technology-focused Nasdaq rose 0.9 per cent, but that was before US President Donald Trump's tariff details. US futures fell after the announcement.
Cryptocurrency giant bitcoin is above $US83,000.
The Aussie dollar is trading around US62.76c after Trump's tariff announcement.
