THE chairman of an independent panel reviewing Darwin’s proposed Dan Murphy’s superstore says legal action taken up by Danila Dilba won’t stop them from delivering a recommendation next month
Panel chair Danny Gilbert said they had met with Danila Dilba Health Services representatives and were well aware of their “trenchant opposition” to Dan Murphy’s.
Last week, the Aboriginal community-controlled organisation launched legal action against the NT Director of Liquor Licensing for approving the Darwin Dan Murphy’s store without ‘proper consideration’ of the potential impacts on the community.
Mr Gilbert said he didn’t think the legal proceedings would impact the panel’s process.
“Those proceedings have now been commenced; we are well aware of them,” he said.
“We will come to our view, independent of that process.
“Indeed, we have to have our report published long, long before that (legal) process will have completed.”
He said the independent panel would be making their final recommendation to Woolworths about the proposed Darwin superstore by mid-April.

Date set for Dan Murphy panel’s first community meeting
“We were going for the end of March, but there’s been more work involved than we thought,” he said.
It comes after the panel held an open community meeting at Darwin Hilton Hotel today, which was attended by about 10 people.

“There’s few in number, but the quality of the discussion has been very good and representative of the various positions held within the community,” Mr Gilbert said.
