THE HOSPITALITY industry is standing by the NT Government’s July 17 border date, despite the NT recording its first case of coronavirus in nearly three months last week.
Hospitality NT chief executive Alex Bruce said venues had been preparing to implement coronavirus regulations once borders reopened and would welcome interstate visitors later this month.
“Hospitality venues in the Northern Territory are COVID-19 safe, they’ve got their plans in place,” Mr Bruce said.
“We’re ready and we are looking forward to those borders reopening.
“We’re supportive of the approach being taken now across the country and the Northern Territory is no different.”
However, he was worried measures, which could be reinstated as visitors arrive, could compromise the industry.

“We need to be targeted about our measures,” Mr Bruce said.
“We can’t have a situation where everyone is stood down, sent home again, it’s just too devastating for too many jobs and livelihoods.”
