LOCALS will be able to reap the benefits of the NT Government’s tourism voucher scheme set to kick off on July 1.

Tourism Top End general manager Glen Hingley said operators would also benefit from the $5.2 million scheme that will allow locals $200 off their holidays.

“It certainly goes part of the way to helping our tourism industry survive what is such a vulnerable time,” he said.

“We hope Territorians can make the most of this – every day we’ve been inundated with emails and phone calls and people walking in, wanting more information and also going through their ‘never have I ever’ list.”

Tourism Minister Lauren Moss was confident the scheme would bring a much-needed boost to the industry.

“We do expect they will get Territorians out exploring their backyard before the borders open on the 17th of July and of course that is money that will be matched by the Territory Government,” she said.

“It’s been such a tough time for our tourism industry, unparalleled by any single event in recent history.”

While the scheme is not yet open for registration, almost 20,000 people have visited the website seeking more information on the voucher initiative.
