AFTER its sudden closure before Christmas, the future of Palmerston’s CMAX cinemas remains in the dark.
The 400-seat cinema closed its doors on December 22 without warning before the school holiday rush.
It was understood the cinema’s closure was due to a dispute with its electricity provider Rimfire Energy.
A message on the cinema’s website reads: “Due to unforeseen circumstances CMAX is closed until further notice.”
A spokesman for CMAX has issued a “big apology” to its customers but has reassured them the intention is to reopen the cinema once the dispute is resolved.
However, a spokesman from the Adelaide based Trak Cinema, which oversees the Palmerston CMAX cinema, yesterday said the future was still unsure regarding when or if the cinema would reopen.
He said the company was also in the process of closing down its office in Adelaide.
“It appears the owner has gone bankrupt, but that is yet to be confirmed, so nothing is certain at this stage,” he said.
“It looks like they are in the process of finding a new owner for the CMAX cinema, so it could possibly be open again as early as next month.”
Attempts to contact Rimfire Energy for comment were unsuccessful.
