NT POLICE are investigating an E-scooter accident — which left a woman with facial injuries — to see if there are safer ways for them to be used across Darwin city.

NT Police Northern Watch Commander Len Turner said Police were reviewing CCTV footage of a woman who faceplanted after hitting the kerb on an E-scooter on Thursday night.

“A female rider was riding along Knuckey St and tried to negotiate the E-scooter to get onto the footpath as she crossed on Smith St but the E-scooter is a pretty heavy thing and the front wheel just hit the kerb and threw her off,” he said.

“She went face first into the concrete.”

Cmdr Turner said the woman wouldn’t face any charges at this stage but had been taken to hospital.

“She’s got some facial injuries and has been taken up to Royal Darwin Hospital,” he said.

“At this stage there are no charges we’re looking at.”

Cmdr Turner said Police were focused on ensuring pedestrian and road users’ safety rather than charging people for minor incidents.

“We urge all people who use the mobility devices to practise due care when riding it, just like any other vehicle,” he said.

“At this stage there’s a lot of things to consider and our main consideration is to educate people how to treat this vehicle or mobility devices with care and observe all road conditions and treat it like any other road vehicle. There are dangers everywhere.”

The six month E-scooter trial has been running since last Wednesday.
