THE  NT Chamber of Commerce’s priority of the East Arm ship lift over superyacht upgrades to Kitchener Bay has been met with outrage.

North Australia Yacht Support founder Ayla Lewis-Wharton was disappointed at NT Chamber of Commerce chief executive Greg Bicknell’s disregard for the industry.

• NT missing out on hundreds of millions from superyacht industry

“I fail to understand how the proposed ship lift — an estimated $200 million commercial project — should be at the expense or in any way compared to the consideration of a $10 million upgrade to existing superyacht marine infrastructure,” she said.

The superyacht industry is worth about $5 million in Darwin.

Ms Lewis-Wharton says a meagre upgrade of $10 million would transform the industry and boost the NT’s income.
